Jamie Carragher has urged Mohamed Salah to at least see out the current season at Liverpool, despite the uncertainty surrounding the forward’s future at Anfield.
The Liverpool legend was among those who criticised Salah after the Egypt international sparked controversy following the Reds’ 3-3 draw with Leeds United on December 6, where he accused the club of throwing him under the bus.
Salah subsequently missed out on being part of Arne Slot’s squad for Liverpool’s Champions League win over Inter, but returned to action on Saturday against Brighton. Introduced as a substitute, he provided the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s second goal in a 2-0 victory.
In doing so, Salah set a new Premier League record for goal involvements for a single club, moving to 277 for Liverpool. He also appeared to bid farewell to the Anfield faithful at full-time before linking up with Egypt’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
While Salah’s long-term future remains unclear, Carragher believes the forward should remain at Liverpool beyond the upcoming transfer window and see out the rest of the campaign with the club.
“I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “The big thing in my mind is, are we going to see Mo Salah from now until the end of the season?
“If he’s thinking of moving on, I would urge him to think again. And the reason I say that is, if Mo Salah is to move from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi League.
“Liverpool in the second half of the season could get to the FA Cup final, the Champions League final. Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi Arabia watching Liverpool come out in Budapest in the Champions League final?
“He deserves a guard of honour, he deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his wife and kids on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate him for what he’s done as a Liverpool player.
“So put your differences with the manager aside for four months and get this great big send-off.”
