Vincent Kompany is confident Bayern Munich’s work in 2025 has laid the groundwork for sustained success, as the German champions close out the calendar year with an opportunity to make further history.
Bayern travel to Heidenheim on Sunday for their final league fixture of 2025, knowing victory would open up a nine-point gap over their nearest challengers at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Kompany’s side have enjoyed a blistering start to the domestic campaign, collecting 38 points from their opening 14 league matches. Only Bayern’s own 15/16 team have managed more at the same stage of a Bundesliga season, with 40 points.
Their consistency away from home has been particularly impressive. Bayern are unbeaten in all 15 of their Bundesliga matches on the road in 2025, recording 11 wins and four draws.
A positive result at Heidenheim would see them complete a full calendar year without an away league defeat for just the third time in the club’s history, after achieving the feat in 1986 and 2013.
With momentum building and records within reach, Kompany believes Bayern are well positioned to turn their steady progress into lasting dominance in the months to come.
“We’ve gradually become more stable in terms of our confidence,” Kompany told reporters. “The last game has its own story, and then there’s the next game.
“We’ve lost very little this year and won quite often. In March, we’ll be playing for the prizes. We want to take the next step at these important moments.
“This year, we’ve laid a good foundation for next year, and next year, we’ll be in a positive position to try and win everything.
“I believe that the important moments always come in the spring. It’s always difficult to summarise a year when you’re actually at the beginning of the year.”
