Rayan Cherki netted a late winner to lift Manchester City to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s early Premier League clash.
Pep Guardiola’s side had recorded seven straight wins in all competitions and an eighth on Saturday would lift them to the summit of the standings over Arsenal, who face Brighton later in the day.
The Cityzens started the game on top and were content with holding possession against Sean Dyche’s relegation-threatened Forest.
Cherki had the first real chance of the game, but his effort went over the crossbar after great intervention from Milenkovic.
The impressive Milenkovic was on hand to stop Foden from finding the back of the net with another block, as the first half ended goalless with neither team managing an effort on goal.
However, it took only three minutes after the restart for Pep Guardiola’s side to find the breakthrough as Cherki played a pass to Reijnders who timed his run perfectly and fired beyond John Victor to open scoring.
The Tricky Trees pulled level just six minutes later as Hutchinson fired past Donnarumma after a swift break.
Foden was then denied a goal by Victor as the game opened up with both sides going close to snatching the winner.
It was the visitors who grabbed the initiative as the impressive Cherki capped another outstanding performance with a brilliant effort in the 83rd minute.
The Frenchman’s effort proved to be the winner as Man City recorded their eighth consecutive win in all competitions.
The Cityzens moved above Arsenal into top spot on the league standings, as they reignite their tirle chances this campaign.
Pep Guardiola’s men are up against Sunderland in their next match on New Year’s day, hoping for a great start to the new year.
