Manchester City assistant coach Pep Lijnders has hailed the addition of Antoine Semenyo to the squad after the winger’s goalscoring debut on Saturday.
Semenyo, 26, joined the former EPL champions last Friday from Bournemouth after his £65 million release clause was activated before the January 10 deadline.
The Ghana international made his debut a day after completing his move in Man City’s 10-1 demolition of Exeter City in the FA Cup third round, scoring one and providing one assist.
“I think a lot of good performances today, a lot of good individual performances.
I think when the team plays like that it becomes easier for the individual, but Antoine is settling well, he is a humble guy, we have followed him for a long time, but he brings something to the front line, what we really want and what we need”, the former Liverpool assistant coach said after the game.
“He can attack quickly, he wants to chase, he is a guy who doesn’t stop. I think you see today that he can adapt quite quickly to our style. It’s nice to have him with us.”
Man City matched their biggest win of the modern era following their 10-1 thrashing of the League One side on Saturday.
The Cityzens will find out their fourth round opponents when the draw is made on Monday night after the conclusion of third round fixtures.
“I think from the first minute we showed with our high press, with the way we went after them, we really respected that, because the way the performance was on top to get the ball back quick, it was a good performance,” added Lijnders.
“I think for the fans, for everybody around, the amount of goals, but especially when it was 4-0, 5-0 we kept pushing, and it was overall a really good day for Man City.”
Man City head to Newcastle United on Tuesday for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinals, before the Manchester derby next weekend.
