Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has revealed that he enjoys the battle for physicality inside the box during set-piece situations in the Premier League.
The Belgian goalkeeper joined the Red Devils last summer in a deal worth up to £18.2 million and has already established himself as the club’s first-choice after a slow start.
It took the 23-year-old until October to make his debut, but he has become a mainstay in the team since then.
Lammens enjoyed another impressive display in Man United’s 1-0 win over Everton on Monday night, particularly with how he dealt with the Toffees set-piece tactics.
“I think it’s been all season like this. For me, it’s just the way it is. It is the Premier League. It’s a bit of war in the 16 [metre penalty area]. It’s also one of my strengths, so sometimes I like the challenge as well”, Lammens stated.
“I enjoy it as well, getting out of my comfort zone a little bit and dealing with those situations because now, even though there are a lot of bodies next to me, I still come for crosses.
“That also gives me a good feeling that I’m doing well and doing those things well.”
Unlike in recent seasons when Manchester United have dealt with goalkeeping problems, Lammens has provided an assured figure in goal as they chase a return to the Champions League this season.
The Red Devils are fourth on the standings and hold a three-point advantage over Chelsea and Liverpool in fourth and fifth respectively.
“I couldn’t really imagine it going any better”, Lammens expressed delight over his impressive start to life at Old Trafford.
“But also I don’t really want to look too much to the past. I mean, it’s been great but I still have to prove myself every week. “So I’m more looking towards the present than the future. Just keep on going, not being satisfied by it, being happy that it went well but it’s not the end so I just have to keep going now.”
Manchester United will look to continue their unbeaten run under interim manager Michael Carrick, when they face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
