Unai Emery has revealed that Aston Villa must not be overconfident going into their clash against Wolves on Friday night to avoid a shock result.
Villa head to the Molineux to play the Premier League’s bottom side as they hope to consolidate their position in third spot on the standings.
Emery’s side won 1-0 when both sides met in the reverse fixture last November and the Spaniard expects another tough contest this time around.
“Very difficult. It was the coach [Rob Edwards] his second or third match coaching Wolverhampton and we won”, Emery referred to the first clash between both sides this season.
“We didn’t deserve to win and they performed fantastically. They played a fantastic game. I remember it.”
Despite being rooted to the bottom of the standings and with just 10 points so far this season, Wolves have improved in recent outings.
The West Midlands club held league leaders Arsenal to an entertaining 2-2 draw earlier this month and also recorded an impressive point away at Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Emery’s poor record at the Molineux will also be fresh on his mind, with his side winless in their last four visits to the stadium.
However, a win on Friday night would boost their chances of making the Champions League at the end of the campaign after a season absence.
“Chelsea had two penalties in two minutes and not clear for me. Against Arsenal, they drew against the best team in the Premier League and maybe the world. Against Crystal Palace away, they lost in the last minute with one player less”, Emery added.
“This is a derby and they are playing at home with their supporters.”
Aston Villa currently have 51 points, three above fourth-placed Manchester United and will be hoping for victory in tonight’s clash to boost their chances of making the UCL for next season.
