Real Madrid dealt major blow as Rodrygo ruled out for long-term with ACL injury

Real Madrid have confirmed that Brazilian winger Rodrygo will miss the rest of 2026, including the FIFA World Cup tournament, after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee.

The 25-year-old had been feeling an issue in his knee for a while, but went down with another injury on his return to action during Real Madrid’s shock 1-0 defeat to Getafe on Monday night.

Sources have revealed that the winger will miss up to eight months of action, with his recovery date set at about 10 months, ruling him entirely out of this year.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the lateral meniscus of his right leg”, the 15-time European champions said in a statement.

Rodrygo already made 27 appearances for Real Madrid this season and his absence will be a major blow to their title chances.

Meanwhile, he will also be a huge absentee for Brazil at the upcoming World Cup under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“A huge obstacle has arisen in my life, in my career, and it prevents me from doing what I love most for a while. I’m out for the rest of the season with my club and out of the World Cup with my country, a dream which everyone knows how much it means to me. All I can do is be strong as always; that’s nothing new”, Rodrygo revealed.

“One of the worst days of my life. I’ve always been afraid of this injury. Maybe life has been a little cruel to me lately…I don’t know if I deserve it, but what can I complain about? I’ve experienced so many wonderful things, which I didn’t deserve either.”
