Barcelona thrash Newcastle United to reach Champions League quarter-finals

Barcelona delivered a devastating attacking masterclass to overpower Newcastle United 7–2, sealing an emphatic 8–3 aggregate triumph in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 showdown.

Coming off a balanced 1–1 first leg in England, Barca wasted no time seizing control at the Camp Nou.

Right from kickoff, Raphinha set the tone with an early opener, igniting a high-tempo encounter that quickly swung in the hosts’ favour.

However, Newcastle showed early fight as Anthony Elanga struck back to level proceedings.

The Swedish forward added another to keep the contest alive, but as the game progressed, Barcelona’s attacking depth began to tilt the balance.

Just before halftime, rising star Lamine Yamal coolly converted from the penalty spot, swinging momentum firmly toward the Spanish giants.

From that point onward, the Blaugrana shifted into another gear.

Straight out of the break, Fermin Lopez extended the lead, before Robert Lewandowski took centre stage with a ruthless brace, punishing Newcastle’s defensive lapses with clinical precision.

As the match raced toward its conclusion, Raphinha returned to cap off a sensational display, grabbing his second goal of the night and sealing a dominant performance that underlined Barcelona’s attacking superiority.

Meanwhile, the Magpies’ aggressive pressing approach, though bold, left gaps at the back, and Hansi Flick’s men capitalised relentlessly, turning defensive errors into goals with sharp execution.

At the final whistle, the scoreboard told the full story: a commanding 7–2 win on the night and an 8–3 aggregate victory, sending Barcelona marching into the quarter-finals in style.

With confidence surging and firepower firing on all cylinders, the Spanish giants now emerge as one of the most dangerous sides left in the competition, while Newcastle exit after a spirited but ultimately outclassed display.
