Staveley moves closer to West Ham United ownership

A significant ownership change could soon reshape the future of West Ham United after Vanessa Gold confirmed she has agreed to sell her family’s 25.1% shareholding to a consortium led by Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PCP Capital Partners.

The proposed transaction represents one of the biggest developments at the club since the passing of former co-owner David Gold in 2023.

While the agreement has been reached, the deal is not yet complete, as existing shareholders must first be given the opportunity to purchase the shares through a pre-emption process.

Should no competing offer emerge from within the current ownership structure, Staveley and her investment group will become major stakeholders at the London club, ushering in what many supporters hope will be the beginning of a new era.

Vanessa Gold, who became joint-chair after the death of her father, revealed that her priority throughout the process has been securing the best possible future for West Ham.

In a detailed statement, she reflected on her family’s long-standing connection with the club.

“As the daughter of David Gold, it was a great honour to step into a joint chair and director role at the club following his passing in 2023.

“Whether as a youth team player, a lifelong fan or an owner, my father’s priority was always to champion and protect this great club.

“Over the past three years I have taken huge personal pride in continuing that legacy and will always be hugely grateful to the staff, players and fans who allowed me to do so.”

Gold also revealed that an earlier agreement involving Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky and EP Group ultimately failed to materialise.

“On June 12, Daniel Kretínsky and I agreed a sale that would have made EP Group the single largest shareholder in West Ham.

“Unfortunately, since that time, the original deal and other alternatives that we have discussed could not be brought to fruition.”

With those negotiations unsuccessful, attention shifted to the consortium fronted by Amanda Staveley.

Staveley is one of football’s most respected dealmakers, having played a central role in Newcastle United’s landmark takeover in 2021.

Alongside husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, she helped oversee Newcastle’s remarkable transformation from relegation candidates into Champions League qualifiers before leaving the club in 2024.

Their football experience, combined with PCP Capital Partners’ investment expertise, has been viewed as a major attraction for West Ham.

Gold believes the consortium possesses the leadership qualities needed to restore the club’s competitiveness.

“In light of this, I have now reached an agreement to sell my family’s shareholding to a consortium led by Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PCP Capital Partners.

“This sale remains subject to a pre-emption process, under which existing shareholders have the option to buy the shares instead.

“While the process has not yet concluded, I wanted to be open with our fans about where things stand and my intentions.”

The timing of the proposed sale comes during a difficult chapter for the Hammers.

Following relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, the club is preparing for life in the Championship with the clear objective of earning immediate promotion.

Gold insists every decision has been driven by the desire to give West Ham the strongest possible platform for long-term success.

“My ambition throughout this process has been to ensure the club has the right leadership and ownership to enable West Ham to achieve its potential and return to its rightful place in the Premier League.

“Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PCP Capital Partners will bring deep experience and understanding of what it takes to lead a successful football club, and I have every confidence in what she and her partners can bring to West Ham.

“Although ownership may soon change hands, Gold confirmed she will continue fulfilling her responsibilities until the process is formally completed.

“While the sale process proceeds, I will continue to act in the club’s best interests, as my father did and would expect of me.”

The proposed takeover now enters its most crucial stage, with existing shareholders holding the right to match the agreed deal before Staveley’s consortium can officially acquire the Gold family’s stake.

If the transaction proceeds as expected, West Ham will welcome one of football’s most experienced ownership groups at a pivotal moment in the club’s history.

For supporters, the hope is that fresh leadership, renewed investment and proven football expertise can provide the stability required to rebuild, challenge for promotion and eventually re-establish the Hammers among England’s elite once again.
