Slot sends emotional Liverpool farewell after exit

Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot has broken his silence following his departure from Anfield, delivering an emotional message to supporters while reflecting on his unforgettable spell with the club.

The Dutch coach was relieved of his duties just one year after guiding Liverpool to their 20th top-flight title, ending a 35-year wait for only their second league crown in that period.

Despite a difficult title defence that concluded with a fifth-place finish, Slot leaves with deep gratitude for the club and its supporters.

In an open letter to fans, Slot described his bond with Liverpool as something far greater than football.

“The connection we share goes beyond football, beyond European nights under the Anfield lights or the sound of You’ll Never Walk Alone being sung from The Kop,” he wrote.

“You made me feel welcome from the start and helped me on the path. That is something I cherish.”

Slot highlighted the significance of Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, explaining that celebrating the achievement alongside supporters made the moment even more meaningful.

The former Reds boss acknowledged how much it meant for fans to experience the celebrations together, especially after the restrictions that surrounded the club’s 2020 Premier League success.

The Dutchman also reflected on difficult moments that united the city, including the tragic incident on Water Street during Liverpool’s title celebrations, where dozens of supporters were injured.

“I was privileged to witness first-hand your spirit of compassion and unity,” Slot wrote.

“It is a spirit that has carried this city through difficult moments before, and one that I hope will help bring the justice and accountability so many have campaigned for over many years.”

Slot further praised the response of supporters following the tragic passing of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, describing the club’s collective support and solidarity as extraordinary.

As his tenure officially comes to an end, Slot reserved special thanks for Liverpool’s players, staff members, and ownership group.

“It has been a pleasure working with you all,” he said.

“Liverpool’s 20th league title belongs to all of us and it will remain an important chapter in its history. For that we should all be proud.”

Despite his departure, Slot remains confident Liverpool are well-positioned for future success.

He praised the current squad for building strong foundations while expressing belief in the next generation of players ready to step forward.

“I leave with complete confidence in what lies ahead. The players who have given so much to this club, who have upheld its values and helped create so many unforgettable moments, have built foundations that will endure.

“At the same time, a new generation is emerging, ready to write its own story and embrace the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.

“Change is part of football, but I know that this club will continue to make its people proud.”

Although his time at Liverpool has come to an unexpected conclusion, Slot’s farewell message reflects the strong relationship he built with the club and its supporters.

While the chapter has closed, the former manager leaves Anfield proud of the memories created and optimistic about the future that awaits the Reds.
