Nagelsmann praises Germany’s seven-goal World Cup statement against Curacao

Julian Nagelsmann believes Germany made the perfect start to their World Cup campaign after his side produced a ruthless attacking display in a 7-1 victory over debutant Curacao.

The Germany boss admitted his team needed time to regain control after Curacao briefly threatened to change the momentum of the match, but he was pleased with the response from his players.

Kai Havertz led the charge with two goals as Germany showcased their attacking depth and handed the World Cup newcomers a difficult introduction to football’s biggest stage.

Nagelsmann acknowledged that Curaçao were not simply there to make up the numbers, praising their ability to compete and create problems during periods of the match.

“It took us a few minutes to get back into the game after they equalized,” the head coach said.

“Curacao can play football too, as we saw, and I’m curious to see how they’ll fare in the group going forward.”

Despite the brief setback, Germany quickly found their rhythm and overwhelmed their opponents with quality, movement and attacking efficiency.

The head coach was particularly satisfied with the number of goals scored and the overall performance from his players.

“I’m very satisfied with us scoring seven goals and our performance for the most part.”

For Nagelsmann, the importance of starting the tournament with three points cannot be underestimated, especially as Germany aim to build confidence throughout the competition.

“A winning start is always important and we’re glad we managed it.”

The result sends an early warning to Germany’s rivals, with Havertz and his teammates showing that they remain a serious force as the World Cup journey continues.
