Van Dijk provides fresh update on Liverpool contract

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has provided a fresh update on his Anfield contract situation, revealing that a decision regarding his next steps will be made public in coming weeks.

The experienced Dutch defender is one of three crucial Liverpool players whose contract situation has sparked relentless media speculations over the course of the season.

Alongside talismanic Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah and revolutionary right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk is set to become a free agent when his contract with the Reds expires at the end of the current season.

With the Netherlands international still at the very top of his game, speculation around his future has intensified this year, fueled by reported Saudi offers and interest from numerous top clubs across Europe.

Despite the growing rumours, the Liverpool skipper has remained deliberately vague, insisting that nothing is decided. While maintaining that stance, he has now hinted at a timeline for when a decision regarding his future will be made.

“I can’t say more than there will be news in the upcoming weeks,” Van Dijk said at a Cadbury event on Thursday.

“Whether it’s positive or not, I have no idea at this point, well I don’t know.

“I mentioned it many times before, I said, I am calm, this is what happened many times before. I love the club and the club loves me, I love playing for Liverpool, I love being round the boys each and every day.

“At this stage, I’m not really panicking whatsoever, so – let’s see.”

With Liverpool within touching distance of the Premier League title, Van Dijk’s complete focus will be on securing his second league crown at Anfield. Then his next step, whether within or away from Merseyside will be made known.
