Stade Brest have turned to continuity by appointing Julien Lachuer as their new head coach, following the passing of former manager Eric Roy.
Lachuer, who worked as Roy’s assistant since his arrival at the club in 2023, has been handed the responsibility of leading Brest into a new chapter.
The appointment comes after Roy reportedly expressed his desire for Lachuer to succeed him before his death on June 17.
The decision reflects Brest’s commitment to maintaining the foundations built under Roy, with Lachuer already familiar with the club’s structure, players and football philosophy.
During Roy’s time in charge, Brest enjoyed a period of growth and stability, and Lachuer now faces the challenge of continuing that progress while stepping into his first major managerial role.
The club confirmed the appointment through an official statement on X, highlighting that Lachuer’s promotion was part of Roy’s vision for the future.
“Stade Brestois is pleased to officially announce the appointment of Julien Lachuer as head coach of the professional team for the next two seasons,” the club announced.
“Wished for by Eric Roy before his passing on June 17, the responsibility of continuing the work of the Nicois technician has been accepted by Julien Lachuer, just days before the scheduled resumption on Thursday, July 2.
“A mission, like a natural legacy, that he will approach with a perfect knowledge of the club gained over the years spent at Stade Brestois.”
The new Brest manager arrives with a deep understanding of the team after spending several seasons alongside Roy.
His close involvement in the coaching setup means he already knows the demands of the role and the expectations surrounding the club.
Lachuer’s immediate task will be preparing the squad for the upcoming campaign while preserving the identity that Brest have developed in recent seasons.
The appointment represents more than a managerial change; it is a continuation of Roy’s plans and a tribute to the work he helped establish.
Brest will now hope Lachuer can build on that foundation and guide the club into another successful era.
With the new season approaching, all eyes will be on Lachuer as he begins his journey as the man trusted to carry forward Roy’s legacy at Stade Brest.
