Mourinho sets clear Real Madrid target ahead of Elche clash

Jose Mourinho has made his Real Madrid demand crystal clear ahead of Tuesday night’s La Liga clash with Elche.

The Portuguese manager is not looking for complicated answers or grand promises. He wants his players to improve, play well and, most importantly, win.

Real Madrid face Elche in the sixth round of La Liga at 9:30pm, with Mourinho admitting he hopes the team will look significantly stronger in the coming months.

“I would like to win, I would like to play well and win, nothing more,” Mourinho said.

The Real Madrid boss knows, however, that building a team takes time. Rather than claiming he has a quick solution to turn his squad into an unstoppable force, Mourinho insisted that consistent work remains the key.

“I hope that in three months we will be better than we are today, but I don’t have any magic formula to say that in three months we will be at an incredible level.”

For Mourinho, improvement must be a daily process.

“In every match and training session, the objective is always to improve.”

He believes the longer a coach works with his players, the greater the opportunity to develop a stronger team.

“The more time you spend working with a coach, the greater the chances of becoming stronger.”

Mourinho also addressed Vinicius Jr., whose recent performances have not quite matched the devastating levels he has shown in the past.

The Brazilian remains an important attacking outlet for Real Madrid, but Mourinho believes his best version is ultimately defined by his ability to decide games.

“His best version is scoring goals.”

The coach was quick to acknowledge that Vinicius contributes in several other areas. Assists, defensive work, commitment and collective effort all matter.

“Obviously, assisting is important, very important is working for the team, commitment, solidarity, collective work, the day-to-day work, which is also important, and he does that very well.”

But Mourinho wants to see another side of the Brazilian return.

“But there’s another Vinicius, the Vinicius who eliminated Benfica last season and who, in close matches, especially in the two knockout stage games, takes one chance, scores, and it’s game over.”

That ruthless edge, according to Mourinho, has been missing recently.

“He’s lacking that top-level performance lately, but I’m happy with him.”

Mourinho also had plenty of praise for Arda Güler, whose influence has continued to grow at Real Madrid.

The Turkish midfielder has already impressed with his technical ability and creativity, and Mourinho believes his impact goes well beyond the obvious statistics.

“There are people better qualified than me to talk about his development. There are people down here who have worked more closely with him since he arrived, who also give me information about his physical growth, how he’s developed, how he’s transformed physically.”

From a footballing perspective, however, Mourinho has been impressed by almost everything he has seen.

“But for me, his quality of play is incredible: his vision, his decision-making, his playmaking, the stability he brings to the team, his creativity…”

Mourinho believes Güler possesses enormous potential while already producing numbers that demonstrate his influence.

“He’s a player with fantastic potential who already has very impressive stats.”

And those numbers, he stressed, are not simply about goals and assists.

“These numbers aren’t just about assists and goals; they come from a deeper analysis. He’s a player with a huge influence.”

Mourinho stopped short of placing Güler among the very best players in the game just yet, but his assessment was still emphatic.

“I don’t want to go so far as to say top, top, top, three times over, but certainly top, top, yes.”

Now, the focus shifts to Elche.

For Mourinho, there is no need to overcomplicate the mission. Real Madrid must continue improving, deliver a convincing performance and leave the pitch with three points.
