Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool’s win at Inter Milan could be the turning point Arne Slot desperately needed.
He called the Champions League victory “massive” and said it showed the fans were firmly behind their manager despite recent tensions with Mohamed Salah.
The win eased pressure on Slot after a run of one win in six matches.
It also strengthened Liverpool’s position in Europe as they push for direct qualification to the knockout rounds.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s 88th-minute penalty sealed the points and lifted the team back into the race for a top-eight finish.
Carragher admitted he was rooting for Slot more than ever.
“I was so desperate for Liverpool to win tonight, as I am every time they play, but more so for the manager for what he’s been through over the last few days,” he said on CBS.
He stressed that the supporters sent a clear message during the match.
“What was really telling was the supporters chanting his name in the first half when it was 0-0… they’re right behind their manager, even more so on the back of that result.”
The former Reds’ captain praised the significance of winning away at Inter.
“It was a massive result, it’s a tough place to go and Liverpool needed that on the back of losing their last game at home in the Champions League to PSV.”
He added that the season has been difficult for Slot.
“I’m happy for him more than anything. It’s been tough all season for him. As a manager, he has to do better in terms of getting more results with the squad of players he’s got, but that’s a huge result for him and the club. I’m over the moon for him.”
The Dutch gaffer now heads into the next fixtures with renewed belief and growing fan support.
