Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has lauded Manchester United’s tactical flexibility following Monday night’s thrilling 4-4 draw in the English Premier League.
In arguably the game of the season so far, both sides canceled out one another in an entertaining eight-goal thriller at the Old Trafford Stadium.
Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s manager, has promised to adopt a more flexible approach and stayed tight-lipped on whether he will stick with his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation for the Mondat night clash.
The Red Devils however began the game with a back three, but switched to a four-man backline at some point in the game.
“I think it is the same system they always play but they adapt depending on who you put to mark them. In the end, it’s a very flexible system. Depending on the players, the outside players, depending if you mark them with a full-back, they will go lower, and then with a winger, they go higher”, Iraola said after the match.
“Also, with the positions in the middle, the six and eight, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes and, even us, we were changing, it’s two against two, but it’s not two against two.”
Manchester United started brightly and took the lead in the first half, before Antoine Semenyo equalized for the away side.
However, Casemiro scored before the interval to give the Red Devils a 2-1 advantage heading into the first half break.
Bournemouth scored twice in six second half minutes to turn the game around, with Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier getting on the scoresheet.
The Red Devils equalized again through Bruno Fernandes and went ahead in the tie through a Matheus Cunha effort.
The Cherries made sure of a stalemate, as Junior Kroupi scored the eighth goal of the entertaining clash which ended in a 4-4 draw.
“Until we match up well for us, I think we suffer in the first 15 or 20 minutes, something like this, and after when we put Alex [Scott] there, we felt much more solid without the ball. And when you feel solid, normally you also attack better”, he continued.
Manchester United head to Villa Park next Sunday for a crucial clash against the in-form Aston Villa, while Bournemouth welcome Burnley to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
