Thomas Frank has urged Tottenham to keep faith with their ideas and stay disciplined, even when matches swing against them.
Spurs suffered a bruising 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The result stung. The performance hurt even more.
Frank did not hide his frustration and described the loss as a harsh lesson in Premier League reality.
“The defeat to Nottingham Forest was a bit of a punch in the face,” Frank told Sky Sports.
“You can lose to any team in the Premier League, it is relentless. But the way we lost, I didn’t like it.
“That ability to handle set backs and keep the energy high is super important.”
He added: “The players need to push through [mistakes].
“That was the only mistake [for the opening goal against Forest] like that we’d made all season.
“It happened. It always happens at the wrong time because if it happens when you are 3-0 up, it’s easier to handle than being at 0-0 in a tight game.
“Of course, it’s not perfect but it happens. Mistakes happen and you move on from that.
“The key thing is whatever happens in the game, stick to the plan. Keep the structure and do the right thing. Then, of course, there are hundreds of different decisions that need to be made on the pitch, but from a structure and a plan.”
As Spurs regroup, the message from the dugout is clear. Trust the process. Keep the shape. Play through the pressure. In Frank’s view, that belief will be key as the season gathers pace.
