West Ham Women have moved quickly to reshape their season by appointing Rita Guarino as the club’s new head coach.
The Italian arrives following the departure of Rehanne Skinner, who was dismissed last week with the Hammers stuck second-bottom in the WSL.
West Ham have managed just five points from 11 league games and now face a tough fight to avoid relegation.

The 54-year-old boasts an impressive coaching resume. She won four Serie A Femminile titles during a hugely successful spell with Juventus, helping to build the Turin giants into a dominant force in Italian women’s football.
This move also marks a new chapter. It is Guarino’s first coaching role outside Italy, and she now steps into English football’s top tier with a clear mission.
“I’m so happy to be joining West Ham United”, said the 54-year-old after signing.
“It is a club with a big history and strong values that align with my own.
“I’ve spoken with the Board and I’m really excited by the project here. There is a lot of talent and experience in the team, and I want to support the girls to develop as individuals but also as a collective.”
Momentum, she insists, will come from identity and mindset.
She continued, explaining her plan for the side: “I want to build a team that is organised, aggressive with the ball and that tries to recognise and use space. The mentality of the team – the togetherness and hard work – is the most important thing.
“I’m proud to be here and I’m looking forward to the chapter ahead in the best league in the world.”
Now, the challenge is firmly on the touchline. West Ham will hope Guarino’s winning pedigree can spark a turnaround as the season heads into a decisive phase.
