Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique cut a reflective tone after Friday night’s 3-1 defeat away to Stade Rennais FC, as the capital club slipped up on Matchday 22 of Ligue 1 at Roazhon Park.
PSG largely dictated the tempo in the opening exchanges and created a flurry of chances, yet went into the break a goal down.
From there, the game swung on fine margins. Despite piling forward and generating opportunities, the Parisians were punished by a clinical Rennes side that made the most of their moments.
“It’s a difficult analysis to make because I think we dominated the first half, creating a lot of chances, but we went in at half-time trailing 1–0,” Enrique told PSG TV.
“Afterwards, we created a lot, we had almost four expected goals but only scored one, whereas Rennes created fewer than two but scored three goals.
“Given that they were that efficient, they deserve to win.”
Looking ahead, Enrique acknowledged the psychological impact of the defeat and the need for improvement as the season intensifies.
“We need to improve, we’re annoyed because this result means a little less confidence for the team. And the opponent feels they can win, and in that sense, it’s more difficult for us.”
For PSG, the challenge now is to quickly regroup, restore belief, and ensure dominance in performance is matched by sharpness where it matters most: in both boxes.
