Howe reaffirms commitment to Newcastle United amid uncertainty over future

Eddie Howe has revealed that he remains committed to achieving success at Newcastle despite growing uncertainty over his future at the club.

The Englishman has come under pressure in recent weeks following the Magpies poor form, with reports suggesting his position at the club was beginning to come under threat.

Newcastle suffered consecutive defeats before the international break, including a humiliating 7-3 defeat at Barcelona in their Champions League Round of 16 second leg clash at Camp Nou.

Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Howe reaffirmed his commitment to the club on a long-term and is focused on ending the season strongly.

“For me nothing has changed, I am absolutely 100% committed to the job”, Howe said.

That commitment has never wavered from my side. I have been working during the break to make sure we come back as a stronger team.”

Howe guided Newcastle to their first major trophy in 70 years when they defeated Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup final and has led them to two Champions League campaigns since his arrival at the club.

However, their season has been inconsistent so far, although they still have a chance of securing qualification for European football at the end of the campaign.

The Magpies are currently 12th on the standings with 42 points, but are only six points behind Chelsea in sixth position.

“In this day and age it is very difficult to look too far in the long term. I can only look to these seven games and make sure we perform at our very best level and make sure the players are ready for these games and we go right to the end of the season”, Howe concluded.

Newcastle return to action in the Premier League on Sunday when they visit Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, hoping for a win to bounce back to form.
