Scotland call up four young talents ahead America trip

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has handed four emerging talents the opportunity to train alongside the senior national team squad at Lesser Hampden ahead of the upcoming trip to America.

The move forms part of Clarke’s plan to closely assess some of the country’s brightest young prospects while boosting training numbers during a staggered arrival period for senior internationals still involved with their clubs.

Hearts striker James Wilson, who already made his senior Scotland appearance back in March 2025, returns to the setup and will be joined by club teammate Liam McFarlane.

McFarlane has impressed with Scotland’s Under-21 side and caught attention during his loan spell at Alloa Athletic, earning a valuable opportunity to step into the senior environment.

The goalkeeper is also expected to travel with the squad to America as an additional training option.

Dundee defender Luke Graham and Manchester United midfielder Tyler Fletcher have also been selected to train with the senior group next week as Scotland continue building towards the future.

Speaking on the decision, Clarke explained the importance of exposing younger players to the demands of the national team setup.

“When I announced the squad, I made reference to a few young players joining us for training at Lesser Hampden,” said Clarke.

“It’s helpful for us, because it boosts our numbers for training – given the staggered arrivals of those who are still playing domestically – and it allows us to take a closer look at some boys who are on our radar.

“It should also be a very positive experience for the players themselves, who will get an insight into what we look for in the senior squad environment, surrounded by top professionals.

“Liam will meet up later in the week and will travel to America with the squad as a training goalkeeper.”

The latest move underlines Scotland’s growing focus on integrating youth prospects into the senior setup as Clarke continues shaping the next generation of international talent.
