Frenkie de Jong believes Marcus Rashford has fully earned the right to remain at Barcelona beyond this summer after an impressive campaign on loan from Manchester United.
Rashford joined the Spanish champions on a season-long loan deal in July and has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence in form at Camp Nou.
The England international has delivered 14 goals and 11 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions, quickly becoming an important figure in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Barcelona reportedly hold an option to make the move permanent for around €30 million, and De Jong has now publicly backed the club to complete the signing.
“Yes, I believe so. In the minutes he’s played, he has given us a lot: goals, assists, depth,” he said.
“He is a fast player, who threatens rival defences. I would be delighted if he continued with us.”
Rashford played a decisive role in Barcelona’s successful LaLiga campaign, including scoring the opener in the 2-0 Clasico victory over Real Madrid on May 10 as Barca sealed the league title.
The forward, whose contract at Manchester United runs until June 2028, has also made no secret of his desire to stay in Spain.
“I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay.”
Rashford’s revival comes after a difficult spell at Old Trafford, where he fell out of favour under former United boss Ruben Amorim before spending the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Aston Villa.
De Jong revealed the attacker arrived in Catalonia determined to make the move a success from day one.
“He arrived here with a lot of enthusiasm.
“He was very happy to be here and from the first moment he arrived you could already see that he wanted to stay. He’s tried to adapt as best he could and I’ve seen him do well.”
With Barcelona already extending Hansi Flick’s contract until 2028, attention is now turning toward whether Rashford’s future will also remain tied to Camp Nou.
