Konate pens emotional Liverpool farewell message

Ibrahima Konate has bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool supporters after confirming his departure from Anfield this summer, admitting he is “deeply saddened” not to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to fans in person.

The France international will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June, bringing an end to a memorable five-year spell on Merseyside.

Following Liverpool’s announcement, Konate released a heartfelt message reflecting on his journey at the club, the challenges he has faced away from football, and the special bond he built with supporters.

Konate arrived at Liverpool as a highly-rated young defender and leaves with a collection of unforgettable memories, major honours, and strong relationships forged throughout his time at the club.

In his farewell statement, the 27-year-old described representing Liverpool as one of the reatest honours of his career.

“Dear Liverpool, Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today, I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

“Representing this club has been an honour. We’ve shared incredible moments together… highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo.

“Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed. During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge.”

He continued: “And to the supporters… thank you for your love, your energy, and your incredible support. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.

“I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game. At that moment, I didn’t know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you.”

The centre-back thanked everyone associated with Liverpool before confirming he is ready to embrace a new challenge in the next phase of his career.

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go.

“This isn’t an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter. See you again soon, Inshallah. YNWA”

Konate leaves Anfield having established himself as a key figure in Liverpool’s defence during one of the most memorable periods in the club’s recent history.

While his next destination remains unknown, his emotional farewell underlines the deep connection he built with Liverpool and its supporters over the last five years.
