English Premier League clubs Arsenal and Liverpool are set to slug it out for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Zubimendi has attracted interest in recent months, following his impressive performances for La Liga club Real Sociedad. He has registered just nine goals and nine assists in 205 appearances for the Txuri-Urdin since breaking out from the academy four years ago.
The 25-year-old is not known for his goalscoring prowess, but he is great at dictating play and shielding his defense line. Zubimendi has even been touted as a natural replacement for Manchester City star Rodri.
Last summer, Liverpool tried to sign him, but the 25-year-old midfielder rejected them. But it appears that the Reds are unwilling to back down just yet.
According to Transfer News Live, Liverpool could make a move for Zubimendi in the January transfer window. However, they would have to fight off interest from league rivals Arsenal.
Real Sociedad could demand up to €60 million for the deal to happen, a fee that Liverpool and Arsenal will find affordable.
Both of them would have to make their moves as soon as possible though. Several reports have revealed that Manchester City are also considering a move for Zubimendi.
Recall that Manchester City lost their star midfielder Rodri at the start of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. And since Zubimendi has a similar playing style as Rodri, Manchester City could go all out to sign him.
