Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi believes that the defending champions will have their work cut out for them if they are to secure victory against Fiorentina in their Serie A clash at Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday.
Inter and Fiorentina return to Serie A after impressive European outings, with both teams tied on 28 points on the league standings. The Nerazzurri currently edge La Viola on goal difference, occupying third place, just one point behind leaders Napoli.
Inzaghi has stressed the need for a top performance as Inter aim to put some gap between themselves and their hosts during their visit to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
“We know that both we and Fiorentina have been playing in Europe. They have a good coach and skilled players, Inter will have to put on a big performance,” Inzaghi told Inter TV.
“It will be a very tough match and a lot will depend on our approach; we know that they come off the back of seven consecutive wins and so, without a doubt, we’re up against a tough side.”
Inter hold a strong historical edge over Fiorentina, who have managed just one win in their last 14 Serie A encounters with the Nerazzurri since the 2017/2018 season (D5, L8). The hosts have also failed to score in their past two league meetings against their visitors.
Currently in fine form, Inter have recorded 10 wins and two draws, underpinned by a solid defensive performance. When asked about the key to their success, Simone Inzaghi highlighted the importance of continuous improvement.
“We’re working both at the front and the back, all of Inter are working well as a side. For us, the aim is always to keep improving together,” he added.
“By thinking game to game, we will need to concentrate on each fixture, trying to prepare for every last one.”
