Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq is poised to leave Real Sociedad during the January transfer window, with the La Liga club reportedly open to facilitating his exit.
After struggling for form and playing time since his high-profile move from Almeria in 2022, the 27-year-old is now linked with moves to Sevilla, Getafe, and Valencia, according to reports from Spanish outlet AS.
Sadiq’s time at Real Sociedad has been underwhelming, marked by injuries and inconsistent performances. The Kaduna-born striker has managed only four goals and two assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.
This season, he has found himself on the fringes, earning just two starts in La Liga—a sharp contrast to the expectations that accompanied his arrival.
Initially signed to bolster their attack, the Nigerian has failed to replicate the impressive form he showed at Almeria, where he was one of La Liga’s standout forwards.
Now, La Real are exploring options for a loan move in January to offload the striker while reducing their wage bill.
Sevilla, Getafe, and Valencia have emerged as potential suitors. Both Sevilla and Getafe reportedly made approaches for Sadiq during the summer transfer window, but the deals failed to materialise.
Sevilla, who signed Kelechi Iheanacho as an alternative, remain interested as Iheanacho has struggled to deliver consistent performances since his arrival.
Getafe, facing relegation concerns with only 11 goals scored in 18 league matches this season, are desperate for reinforcements up front and may reignite their pursuit of Sadiq. The club had previously explored a swap deal involving Borja Mayoral, but the negotiations fell through.
Valencia, another potential destination, are monitoring the situation as they look to strengthen their attacking options amid a challenging campaign.
For Sadiq, a January move presents an opportunity to revive his career and secure regular playing time—a crucial step in maintaining his place in Nigeria’s national team.
