Newcastle United dealt major blow with defender ruled out of the season

Newcastle United have been dealt a major injury blow with England leftback Lewis Hall ruled out of the season with a foot injury.

In news confirmed on Wednesday by the club, the 20-year old will now miss the Magpies remaining matches for the season including next weekend’s crucial Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley.

The news comes as a huge blow for Eddie Howe’s side who also have England winger Anthony Gordon suspended for the final, after he received his marching orders for violent conduct in the extra-time 2-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion last Sunday in the FA Cup fifth round, as they look to secure first major trophy since 1955.

“Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team”, Newcastle United said in a statement.

“Wishing you all the very best for your surgery and recovery, Lewis.”

The former Chelsea defender will also be unavailable to impress German coach Thomas Tuchel, in the upcoming international window as he had hoped to secure a starting berth as England’s first-choice leftback.

Newcastle United are currently sixth in the Premier League standings and will travel to London next Monday to face West Ham United.
