Liverpool goalkeeper under FA investigation for alleged discriminatory comments

Liverpool Women have confirmed that the Football Association is investigating goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe over alleged discriminatory remarks made during a team photo-shoot.

According to reports from Britain’s PA News agency, the alleged comments were overheard by teammates and staff earlier this season. When approached by The Associated Press, Liverpool Women issued a firm statement on the matter.

“The club has followed its protocols to the fullest extent and the alleged incident has been reported to the FA, which is conducting an investigation with our full support,” the club said.

“We condemn all forms of discrimination; it has no place in football or society. We are unable to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.”

Borggrafe joined Liverpool from Freiburg on a free transfer in July but has not yet made her debut.

She was absent from the squad in the opening day 4-1 defeat to Everton but returned to training and was an unused substitute in the 1-0 loss to Leicester last weekend.

The Reds face Aston Villa on Sunday as the investigation continues.
