Eddie Howe has praised William Osula after the young striker’s stunning performance in Newcastle’s 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Bradford.
The 21-year-old grabbed a brilliant brace at St James’ Park, putting himself firmly in contention for a Premier League start.
“It depends on my team selection, obviously. He’s done himself no harm today. That will have done him the world of good on so many different levels.
“As a striker, you need to have that feeling. This was an opportunity he needed to grab and he did. It’s the same for any player, so he puts himself very much in the forefront of my thoughts.
“He’s very driven. Will has a great attitude to his work, to his career. He’s very ambitious, he wants to play as all players do,” he said.
He added: “But I think he’s now justifying that by his training performances. We’ve done a lot of work with him and we’ll continue to do that for his benefit to try and get him to be the very best player he can be.”
Osula’s sharp finishing gave Newcastle the perfect boost as they advanced to the next round. Howe’s comments suggest the young striker could be rewarded with more top-flight minutes soon.
