Fernandes breaks EPL assist record in Manchester United’s rout of Brighton

Bruno Fernandes made Premier League history on Sunday in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on the final day of the 2025-26 season.

The Manchester United midfielder had equalled the EPL single season assist record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne with his 20th league assist of the season in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

He made history on Sunday with his 21st of the season for Patrick Dorgu’s opener against Brighton, becoming the player with the most assist in a single Premier League season.

It marks another achievement for the Portuguese playmaker, who also won the FWA Player of the Season award, as well as the Premier League Player of the Season award.

Fernandes also claimed the league’s Playmaker of the Season award after finishing with nine assists ahead of second-placed Rayan Cherki.

Manchester United finished their season with an impressive 3-0 thrashing of Brighton, to complete their remarkable turnaround under Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils finished 15th last season under Ruben Amorim, but have enjoyed a stunning turnaround this season which has seen them pick the most points in the league since January.

Fernandes’ corner was headed in by Dorgu in the 33rd minute to give them the lead, before brilliant exchange of passes between Mason Mount, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo saw the latter finish off a second before the break.

Dorgu and Fernandes then combined for the third goal just three minutes after the restart, with the Portuguese midfielder firing in to seal a comfortable win in their final match of the season.

The 31-year-old will now be eyeing a clean sweep of the individual awards with his sights now set on winning the PFA Player of the Season award.
