Enzo Maresca has shared an emotional message with Chelsea supporters after leaving the club on New Year’s Day.
The Italian parted ways with the London club last Thursday in a shock decision after spending 18 months in charge of the club.
He led the club to success in the UEFA Conference League in his first season in charge of the club and also guided them to the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer.
“LEAVE THIS WORLD A LITTLE BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT”, Maresca revealed in his first statement since leaving Chelsea.
“My journey with Chelsea began with the preliminary rounds of the Conference League. I leave with the inner peace of leaving a prestigious club like Chelsea where it deserves to be.
“I want to thank all the Chelsea fans for their support over the last 18 months. Support that was crucial to achieving Champions League qualification, winning the Conference League, and winning the Club World Cup.”
Chelsea have already appointed former Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior as head coach on a long-term contract, with the Englishman expected to be in charge of their weekend’s clash against Charlton in the FA Cup.
Calum McFarlane, the U21 coach was at the dugout in the 1-1 draw at Manchester City last Sunday and will remain in the role against Fulham on Wednesday.
“Victories that I will always hold in my heart! A special thank you to all the players who have accompanied me on this wonderful journey”, the Italian added.
“I wish everyone who has shared every moment with me every success in this second half of the season and in the future. Thank you, CHELSEA from me and my family.”
Maresca has been linked with a move to Juventus and Manchester City in the past, but is yet to reveal his next move.
