Doue double sees PSG cruise past Monaco in Champions League thriller

Paris Saint-Germain young star Desire Doue put up a stellar performance as his brace ensure the team’s victory over AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League Play-off first leg encounter at Stade Louis-II.

The hosts struck early on, as Folarin Balogun punished PSG’s slow start, firing Monaco into a dream lead inside the opening minute before doubling their advantage just before the 20-minute mark.

Despite dominating possession, PSG looked in real trouble until Doue sparked the turnaround with an instinctive finish in the 29th minute, after being sent in behind by Bradley Barcola.

The visitor’s resurgence continued when Achraf Hakimi levelled just before half-time, connecting with Doue’s inventive pass to restore parity and swing momentum back towards the visitors.

With the tie finely balanced early in the second half, the French player struck again, showing composure beyond his years to convert from close range and put PSG in front, much to the delight of the travelling contingent.

Monaco had earlier looked comfortable, with Balogun’s double giving them a dream start and forcing PSG into a response.

But the French champions’ ability to control long spells of possession and create chances gradually paid dividends, with Doue’s brace proving decisive in an entertaining contest.

The result gives PSG a crucial advantage heading into the second leg, and Doue’s performance will give boss Luis Enrique plenty of confidence as his side chase deeper progression in Europe.
