Regis Le Bris has applauded the growing influence of Brian Brobbey at Sunderland, while also setting a clear next objective for the in-form striker.
Brobbey continues to build momentum following his move from Ajax, and once again delivered a standout performance as Sunderland edged past Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the Stadium of Light.
His recent match-winning heroics in the Tyne-Wear derby have only strengthened his bond with the fans and underlined his importance to the team.
As the season progresses, Le Bris believes Brobbey’s consistency is becoming one of his biggest strengths, especially as he continues to influence Sunderland’s attacking rhythm.
“Brian is becoming consistent, it’s a good sign because you can be strong once when you start to repeat performances like that, it’s a good sign,” Le Bris said.
“Probably the connection with his teammates is getting better progressively as well because you feel that even with a blind pass you can play [into his] zone and take care of the ball and then you can support, which is really positive to break a press.”
While the Dutch forward has impressed with his hold-up play and link-up ability, the Sunderland boss is now pushing for improvement where it matters most: inside the final third.
“I hope [there is still room to improve] because he’s young,” Le Bris added.
“The final third is now the main target. The build-up, the way he can keep the ball under pressure is brilliant. So now the last bit is to make him more clinical, score more goals, but the platform is really good.”
With six goals in 26 appearances across all competitions this season, Brobbey is steadily finding his feet.
Now, as Sunderland look to push forward, all eyes will be on whether he can sharpen his finishing and convert strong performances into even greater goal returns.
