Brighton coach Hurzeler backs Yohanna to shine in Premier League

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler has tipped new signing Zadok Yohanna to make impact following his €30 million move to the club.

The Seagulls completed a move to sign the highly rated Nigerian youngster from Swedish side AIK, making him their first signing of the transfer window.

The 18-year-old has been subject of intense transfer speculation ahead of the summer transfer window, with several clubs reportedly showing interest in signing him.

The likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United had also provided competition before Brighton sealed the deal, while RB Leipzig had also been mentioned at a point.

Yohanna joins on a contract until 2031, after an impressive stint at AIK where he scored five goals and provided four assists in 12 games this year.

“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” Hurzeler said.

“Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player who can impact games in the final third.”

“He’s still young and will need time to adapt to the club and the Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch, and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy.”

Meanwhile, Yohanna also explained the details of his first conversation with the Brighton manager after signing his deal.

The 18-year-old became the sixth Nigerian to play for Brighton, with Leon Balogun being the most recent between 2018 and 2020.

“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have, and I really want to win trophies with the team,” Yohanna said.

Yohanna will officially join the team when the transfer window opens on June 15, although it is not sure whether he will be integrated into the first team immediately or sent on loan to gain valuable experience.
