Antoine Semenyo has admitted he is thoroughly enjoying his early days at Manchester City after playing a key role in their Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg victory over Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
The winger’s growing influence was evident once again as City laid down a strong marker in the two-legged tie, combining composure, patience and cutting edge at a hostile St James’ Park.
Since arriving from Bournemouth, Semenyo has wasted no time settling into his new surroundings, and his post-match reflections highlighted just how quickly he has embraced the club’s demanding culture and winning mentality.
“The whole environment here is perfect,” Antoine Semenyo. “Everyone is confident and wanting to achieve the best.
“I’ve just come into that and they’ve helped me with my confidence and they’ve made me feel welcome.
“It’s been a lot, definitely been a lot, but I’m enjoying it so far, I’m definitely picking things up very quickly. I’m enjoying it.
“I’m taking the confidence from Bournemouth to here. I’m playing with a smile on my face. I’m enjoying every moment.”
On the pitch, City were forced to dig deep at times, with Newcastle pushing hard to disrupt their rhythm.
However, as the game wore on, City’s control began to tell, and Semenyo was on hand to capitalise when the decisive moment arrived, calmly finishing from close range to tilt the contest in the visitors’ favour.
Reflecting on the battle and the importance of staying patient, the forward acknowledged the challenge posed by the Magpies while underlining City’s belief that opportunities would come.
“It was a tough game today,” continued Semenyo. “We just had to stick in there, we knew we would get chances.
“I was just in the right area to tap it in and we’re victorious so we’re happy.”
With the second leg still to come, the Ghana international’s confident display and upbeat mindset offer another encouraging sign for City as they chase silverware on multiple fronts.
For the winger himself, the message is clear: he has arrived, he is adapting fast, and he is loving every second of the journey.
