Tottenham’s Frank hails Newcastle’s quality ahead of crucial league clash

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank believes Newcastle United will not pose an easy task when both sides clash in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Spurs welcome the Magpies to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a midweek clash, hoping to improve their poor league record.

The 2025 Europa League winners have won just one of their last 10 league matches and come into this clash on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in their last outing.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also on a poor run of form and have won just once in their last eight across all competitions.

However, Frank ruled out both side’s poor form as a factor in the clash and believes the away side will not be easy run overs for his side.

“I think every Premier League game is a battle. I think if someone doesn’t understand that then they shouldn’t play in the Premier League”, the former Brentford coach stated.

“It’s the most relentless league in the world. That won’t change tomorrow. Newcastle are very intense in the way they play.

[Eddie Howe] is a coach I admire a lot. He came in four-and-a-half years ago… he in my opinion has been part of transforming the club to make sure they didn’t go down, then they finished fourth.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last five matches against Tottenham, while both teams played a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture back in December.

“I think this is their second year of experience playing in the Champions League and are four points ahead of us [in the Premier League].

They’re a very good coaching team up there. It just shows it’s not straightforward. It shows there’s no recipe. Every day it’s relentless how you work with things. I think they’ve done fantastic up there”, Frank concluded.

Both managers are under intense pressure to deliver a positive result, and a defeat could prove to be the end of their tenures, particularly for Frank.
