Harry Kane delighted after career landmark in Bayern’s big win

England captain Harry Kane has expressed excitement after scoring his 500th career goal in Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The former Spurs forward scored twice in the encounter, including a penalty kick which was the 100th successful spot-kick of his career as the Bavarians regained their six-point gap at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

Kane already has 41 goals in all competitions for Bayern this season, becoming the first player to reach the 40-goal mark, with 26 of those strikes coming in the league.

The 32-year-old has now scored 126 goals since moving to Germany in 2023 from Tottenham Hotspur, where he scored 280 times.

He also has 78 goals for the England national team, making him the country’s record goalscorer.

“It was nice. Obviously a proud achievement to reach 500 goals. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot sacrifice, so nice to reach it. But as always, it’s about the next one”, Kane said after the match.

“So the most important thing today is the win, the clean sheet.”

Bayern Munich eased to their 18th league win of the season in their 22nd match on Saturday by thrashing the relegation-threatened hosts.

It took them just 22 minutes to score the opener as Kane converted from the spot after youngster Lennart Karl had been fouled.

The England forward doubled the lead just three minutes later with a strike from outside the box that went in off the post

German midfielder Leon Goretzka, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, scored a third in the second half to seal a comfortable win for the record Bundesliga champions.

Bayern Munich remain six points clear at the top of the standings and will now face Eintracht Frankfurt in their next game on Saturday.
