Senegal’s Premier League stars mock AFCON title reversal to favour Morocco

Tensions continue to rise following the dramatic decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal national football team of their Africa Cup of Nations title, with several Premier League stars reacting in defiant fashion online.

In the wake of the ruling, players including El Hadji Malick Diouf of West Ham United, Ismaila Sarr of Crystal Palace, and Habib Diarra of Sunderland took to social media, posting laughing emojis alongside images of their celebrations and the AFCON trophy.

Their reaction comes shortly after CAF overturned the original final result, awarding the title to Morocco, whose side had initially lost 1–0 after extra time.

On the pitch, Senegal had secured victory thanks to a decisive extra-time goal from Pape Gueye, after a tense encounter that saw Brahim Diaz miss a crucial stoppage-time penalty for Morocco.

However, the turning point arrived late in the game when Senegal players walked off the pitch following the controversial penalty decision, causing a 17-minute delay before play resumed.

That incident ultimately formed the basis of CAF’s disciplinary action, leading to the forfeiture ruling and reversal of the final outcome.

As reactions continue to pour in, the online response from the Teranga Lions’ stars highlights the frustration within the camp, adding another layer of drama to an already contentious conclusion to the tournament.

With the decision now official, the Atlas Lions are recognized as African champions once again, while Senegal’s players appear far from accepting the verdict quietly.
