Major League Soccer outfit Orlando City have announced the signing of Antone Griezmann from Atletico Madrid to a Designated Player Contract.
The 35-year-old will join the club in July when the MLS summer transfer window opens, on a two-year deal with the option of an additional year.
Griezman had been linked with a move to the club last month, but opted to finish the season with Atletico before making the move once the season ends.
“Bringing Antoine to Orlando is a landmark moment not only for our club, but for our city, our supporters and for Major League Soccer,” Orlando City owner/chairman Mark Wilf said.
“He is one of the most gifted, accomplished and influential players of his generation, and his decision to choose Orlando City reflects the mission and culture of our club.
Our focus is on consistently building a championship-caliber roster every year, and adding a world-class player like Antoine reinforces that commitment and our belief in what the Club can achieve.”
Griezmann has enjoyed a very successful career til date, including winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2021 UEFA Nations League with France.
He also holds the record for the most goals in Atletico Madrid’s history (210) and has another chance to add to his trophy haul when they face Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final next month.
The 35-year-old also made La Liga Team of the Season on four occasions and won the player of the season award in the 2025-16 campaign.
“I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City,” Griezmann said in a statement.
“From my first conversations with the Club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me. I look forward to making Orlando my new home, meeting the supporters, feeling the energy at Inter&Co Stadium, and giving everything I have to help the team achieve great things.”
Griezmann’s arrival is a statement of intent from Orlando City, who will be hoping to reach the playoffs for a seventh consecutive season.
