Onyedika at the double as Nigeria maintain perfect start vs Uganda

Nigeria wrapped up their Group C campaign in style with a convincing 3‑1 victory over Uganda at the Africa Cup of Nations in Fez.

A storming performance saw the Super Eagles finish the group stage unbeaten and book their spot in the Round of 16 with maximum points.

The scoring began in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu ended his international drought by tapping in from close range after persistent pressure inside the Uganda box.

Just past the hour mark, Nigeria capitalised on a red card shown to Uganda goalkeeper Jamal Salim for a deliberate handball outside the area.

Raphael Onyedika took advantage of the extra space, slotting home his first goal in the 62nd minute with a composed finish. Moments later, Onyedika struck again, this time assisted by Samuel Chukwueze, to put the game firmly beyond Uganda’s reach.

Uganda did not go quietly. In the 75th minute, Rogers Mato pulled a goal back with a well‑taken strike from the centre of the box, giving the East Africans something to cheer late in the match.

Both sides traded possession and chances throughout, but Nigeria’s defensive discipline and sharp attacking play made the difference.

Even after going a goal down early, Uganda showed spirit but could not prevent the Super Eagles from extending their dominant run.

The win capped a perfect group stage for Nigeria, who scored freely and showed depth across the squad despite rotation ahead of the final game.

Now into the Round of 16, the Super Eagles carry confidence and momentum into the knockout rounds as they chase further glory at AFCON 2025.

Uganda, meanwhile, exit the tournament with a spirited showing but finish on a low note, ending their AFCON campaign in Group C with just one point.
