Slot sends strong warning to Liverpool ahead of Paris Saint-Germain showdown

Arne Slot has warned that Liverpool cannot afford to repeat their disappointing display from last weekend’s FA Cup loss to Manchester City if they are to avoid another heavy defeat against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

The Reds visit the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night for the first leg of their quarter-final clash against the European champions on the back of a dismal 4-0 defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

PSG, meanwhile, are in superb form at the moment and thrashed Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate in the previous round.

They also defeated Liverpool on penalties after a 1-1 draw across both legs in the Round of 16 last season and will fancy their chances this time around.

“I can tell you, if we have the 20 minutes we had at City, if we have them tomorrow evening here, we will again concede four goals because these players over here know how to act if we are having 20 minutes like that”, Slot said.

“If not, it’s going to be a really hard night again, like it was last year where we completely deserved to lose 4-0 over here or maybe more.”

Liverpool have suffered defeats in their last two matches, with captain Virgil Van Dijk accusing the players of giving up during the games.

Another dismal performance on Wednesday could spell the end of their Champions League journey this season and seal a trophyless campaign as the UCL remains their only realistic source of winning a silverware this season.

“But that’s the beauty of football. In the 85th minute we scored a goal and it was almost like this was a robbery”, Slot continued.

Liverpool and PSG clash on Wednesday night in the first leg of their last eight tie, with the return leg set to hold at Anfield in a week’s time.
